Club tournament

Guests who would like to take part in the club tournament on a trial basis are very welcome. The evenings on which the club tournament is played can be found in the agenda.

Our youngsters can also take part in the club tournament. So that the children and young people can go home earlier, we have reduced their time to 45 minutes with an extra 30 seconds per move. This means that the games are over by 9.30 pm at the latest.

Portrait

The Schachgesellschaft Baden was first mentioned in a written document from 1895, making us one of the oldest chess clubs in Switzerland.

We are particularly proud of our promotion of youth chess. Karl Wilhelm, President from 1974 - 2019, founded a "Youth Chess Centre" where young chess players from Baden were successfully trained. GM Florian Jenni, for example, began his chess career in Baden.
Youth chess is still an important pillar of our association today. Jochem Snuverink and his fellow leaders train children and young people year after year with great commitment and success.

We are regularly represented with several teams at the two national championships, SMM and SGM, from the 1st league to the 4th league. This means that every player can take part in the tournaments according to their level of play and develop their skills.

Once a year, we organise our own rated tournament: the Open Baden City Championship. Seven rounds are played - spread from October to April - before the new chess champion of Baden is crowned.

Members who enjoy playing chess online can join "Lichess" Team SG Baden.

SG Baden has 110 members (as of 1 January 2014) and is a member of the Aargau Chess Association and the Swiss Chess Federation. Our youth chess programme is also listed in the Baden family guide.
